Meet Ralph, Ebony, and Emily, the famous spider monkeys that inhabit Monkey Island. Monkey Island was accidentally created in the 1960s when developer "Furgy” Furgason had dirt piled around submerged rocks in the Homosassa River to warn boaters of the hazard. He later added a lighthouse and brought over mischievous monkeys from Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park, turning the tiny island into Monkey Island.

Captain Ron knew right where to go! We saw manatees. Even a bald eagle fishing. We visited Bird Island and saw nests of Great Blue Herons! We got a nice close up view of Monkey Island!

Captain Ron led us to the manatees, bird island, monkey island, herons of all types, Bald eagle, osprey and their nests, anhinga and cormorants. There was a small pod of dolphins (8) cavorting in the river.
